Two-day Introductory Data Analysis Workshop In-Person
The two-day Introductory Data Analysis Workshop, organised by the Statistical Consulting Unit, is directed at those who know some basic statistics, but would like to better understand the tests and the modelling as well as to learn R. The Introductory workshop covers some basics such as exploratory data analysis, statistical testing, sampling distributions, non-parametric tests, and regression models and analysis of variance (ANOVA). It will be followed by the Advanced Data Analysis Workshop in Term 4 to introduce generalised linear models (GLMs) and hierarchical mixed effects models often employed for repeated measures and blocked observations.
After ten years of consulting thesis students and staff at UC, we can pretty confidently say that 95% of all statistical queries end up having a mixed-effects GLM as part of the answer. So, even if you are not sure what your analysis is going to be, it is highly recommended that you take the workshops now rather than half a year before planned submission. It is also highly recommended to take the Introductory Data Analysis Workshop before taking the Advanced Data Analysis Workshop.
The two-day workshop consists of a mixture of theory and practice of quantitative methods via seminars and labs. You need to be able to attend on both days, both morning and afternoon sessions. This is an in-person workshop; videos and workshop material are available on the Learn page of the "Statistical Consulting Unit".
This workshop is run over two days- attendance at all sessions is needed
