Public Speaking Workshop series for Thesis Students In-Person
Do you want to be a more impactful and engaging speaker? This workshop series will teach you skills in crafting your narrative and discovering your presentation style to build your public speaking confidence.
During this series you will work to develop your own 3MT Presentation that you will share in the third session.
Workshop 1: How to craft an impactful presentation
This workshop goes beyond the basics of presenting to look at how to craft a talk that is both impactful and memorable to your audience. In this interactive session, you will reflect and explore ways of capturing your audience's attention that are authentic and relevant to your research.
Workshop 2: Supporting your story telling.
Now you have started building your presentation let’s explore how you can best preform it. In this session you will learn to develop an authentic speaking style, consider your stage presence and how to craft a slide which complements rather than competes with your presentation.
Workshop 3: Presentation and Peer Feedback
In this session you will have an opportunity to present in small groups. Presentations will be in various stages of development, encouraging a practice of seeking feedback early. We will also explore how to review feedback to focus on the most important aspects.
Follow up Resources
After each workshop we will share resources that will help you explore speech crafting and oratory skills in more detail at a level of your choosing. The different handouts will guide you through the steps to write and prepare to present your own 3 Minute Thesis presentation.
